Every species should be protected to preserve diversity... but how can we do that if we are not even able to save the species we admire the most ?!...

And I agree with what you wrote there.
How can humans expect to save themselves if all we do is destroy everything? If we start with the animals and their habitats, well, we'd all be better off. Humans tend to forget that we are but another species, and though considered the smartest and most dominant, we most certainly do not own this Earth. We share it with others who deserve to be here just as much as we do.
